Jakarta – General Director of Air Transportation, Ministry of Transportation, Herry Bakti said that avtur and vegetable oil has not problem at all because the mechine in the airplane could run as usual. “There is no problem at all (avtur is mixed by vegetable oil (VO)),” Herry recently said in Jakarta.
Herry continued, vegetable oil which is blended by avtur is just 2% only in the first phase. Then, the blending will be 3%. The 2% of vegetable oil will start in 2016. In the next four years, it will be 3% blended to the avtur in 2020.
Operational Director of Garuda Indonesia, Novianto admitted, the mixing 2% of biodiesel to the avtur is to reduce the gas emission of the aeroplane. The gas emission is too much. Furthermore, the long term plan is to resubsitute the fossil oil.
Novianto hoped, the price of vegetable oil could compete to avtur. But he is pessimistic that the tariff of vegetable oil could be lower than avtur because Garuda Indonesia will use avtur to be 2 billions liter/year in 2016. (T2)
