PEKANBARU – The government’s plan to revise the Regulation No.71/2014 about the Protection and Wetland Ecosystem Cultivation makes the workers worried who work in the companies operating in the wetland.
Konfederasi Serikat Buruh Sejahtera Indonesia or KSBSI Riau Province, the revision of the regulation will make negative effects to about more than 220 thousands workers in plantation and paper industries in Riau.
The government’s regulation should actually be useful to the people but not to make them suffer.
“We question why the regulation is revised? Will it be negative for us (the workers)?” the coordinators of KSBSI Riau Province, Patar Sitanggang said, Wednesday (29/4) as quoted from Antara Riau.
Before it, the businessmen protested and asked to revise the regulation because of the clausul which limits the water surface in the wetland about 0,4 meter (40 cm).
The regulation consists of protection and wetland ecosystem cultivation which cover: the plan, licence, advantage, control, nursing, supervison and administration sanction to whom violating it.
“What will happen if it has been revised? Will not it be firing the workers? Then the people who become the partner of palm oil companies, could not they cultivate in wetland?” he asked. (T3)
