InfoSAWIT, SAMPIT – The Seruyan Regency Government, together with labor unions, held a socialization event for Seruyan Regent Regulation (Perbup) No. 43 of 2024 concerning the Protection of Women and Children in the Workplace. This regulation is expected to be an important foundation for realizing a sustainable and just palm oil plantation environment.
“Sustainable palm oil is not just about production but also about how to create a safe and non-discriminatory work environment,” said Agus Sulino, a representative from Sub-Working Group II on Social Conflict Prevention in Commodity Production – Seruyan Jurisdictional Palm Oil Certification, in Sampit on Thursday (21/8).
According to Agus, the Seruyan Regency Government is committed to implementing a Jurisdictional Certification approach. Through this method, various local regulations, including Perbup 43/2024, are drafted in line with the principles and criteria of sustainable palm oil certification. This ensures that independent and small-scale farmers do not need to issue additional policies to meet market standards.
The regulation pays special attention to vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, who often face the risk of discrimination and violence in social and work environments. “The birth of this Perbup is a significant milestone to ensure the rights of women and children are protected at all levels,” Agus stated, as reported by InfoSAWIT from Antara on Tuesday (26/8/2025).
Head of the Seruyan Manpower and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans), Arniansyah, added that his office, along with other agencies, is continuously promoting the implementation of the regulation. Although there have been no reports of violence against women and children in plantations, anticipatory measures are still considered necessary. “This Perbup serves as a legal umbrella. When there is a violation, there is already a clear rule that can be enforced,” he said.
The socialization, held in Sampit, was attended by representatives from labor unions, GAPKI, and several large private companies. About 20 out of the 28 invited plantation companies were present at the three-day event from August 19-21, 2025.
The activity was also supported by the Christelijk Nationaal Vakverbond (CNV), a Dutch labor union federation, together with Kaleka Seruyan. According to CNV Local Staff, Sahidatul, attention to the rights of women and children is an inseparable part of the effort to achieve sustainable palm oil. “We hope that after this event, all companies will truly understand and implement Perbup 43/2024 in their respective environments,” she said.
Arniansyah affirmed that the involvement of labor unions, gender committees, and business associations is crucial to ensure the regulation is properly implemented. "With close collaboration from all parties, we can build a more advanced, friendly, and safe Seruyan for women and children," he concluded. (T2)
