Transporting CPO, Pelindo I Expands the Port

JAKARTA – Company in port service, PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Pelindo I)will expand 5 port projects in this year.

The Jakarta Post some time ago mentioned, 5 ports involved in the projects arePort of Malahayati, Port of Belawan, Port of Kuala Tanjung, Port of Dumai and Batam. The investments are US $ 1,2 billions.

Pelindo I claimed, port of Kuala Tanjung locating in North Sumatera will be the biggest port in the world.

In 2014, Pelindo 1 established subindustry, called PT Prima Multi Terminal to run the project in Port of Kuala Tanjung. In the first phase, the expansion will take three years, covering the building of terminal for the liquid mass and multi purposes terminal. The facility is hoped to handle 3,5 millions of tons of palm oil, 400o cargos and one millions of tons of dry one. The port will be integrated to a 1000 hectare industrial region.

Director of Pelindo I, Bambang Eka Cahyana said, the port could be the transit to transport palm oil and aluminum to Europe. He believed, it is a strategical location to compete with Singapore.

“After the port is fully developed, there will be big ships to Europe and transport all goods via Port of Kuala Tanjung, but not from Singapore anymore,” he said.

“Singapore has weakness in natural resources but the country has built industrial cluster. So Indonesia should do the same thing,” Director of Port of Rotterdam, who is also the Advisor of Pelindo 1 for this project, Roger Clasquin mentioned.(T3)
