PEKANBARU – General Secretary of Indonesian Association of Soil Science (HITI), Suwardi, on Tuesday (25/11/2014), stated the development of peat-lands for industrial forest for kind of acacia and palm oil plantations have a very good prospect.

“Acacia grows really fast on peat and can be harvested by 4-5 years cycle. While in sub-tropical areas such in Europe needs 20-30 years to produce woods volume for the same amount in Indonesia,” he said as cited by Lampost.

Then Suwardi who are also the expert in peat-lands in Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) added, also for palm oil can producing 4-5 tons oil per hectare in a year. By the sam fertile land in Europe can only produce 0,5 tons oil from soybean per hectare in a year.

It’s not surprisingly when Europe threatened by the existence both of these mainly agricultural sector in Indonesia, “These agricultural sector are the threat for them, that’s why its always got negative campaigns,” he said. (T3)
