TENGGARONG – Palm oil becomes one developing commodity in Indonesia, especially in Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar), East Kalimantan. It is noted that the palm oil plantations in Kukar reached 883,31 hektares. Member of III Commission, Legislative Kukar, Johansyah said as quoted from Kaltim Post, Jumat (18/7/2014).
He thought, palm oil is potential to produce seven tons of oil/hectare than soybean which is only threetons/hectare. “Kukar has the regions to develop palm oil, but it should carefully consider what effect will be for the environment,” he said.
He mentioned, the huge needs, and the materials for biofuel urge the increasing of crude palm oil (CPO). But he emphasized, there will be negative impacts from palm oil plantations. (T3)
