JAKARTA, InfoSAWIT – Indonesia’s Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) has expanded its investment in developing the next generation of plantation professionals by appointing Institut Pertanian Stiper (INSTIPER) Yogyakarta and Akademi Komunitas Perkebunan Yogyakarta (AKPY) to educate at least 1,010 students under the 2026 Plantation Human Resources Scholarship Program.
The partnership was formalized through a cooperation agreement between BPDP and Yayasan Pendidikan Kader Perkebunan Yogyakarta (YPKPY), the educational foundation overseeing INSTIPER and AKPY. The signing took place at BPDP’s Ballroom on Thursday (20/8/2026) and was witnessed by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
Under the program, INSTIPER Yogyakarta will provide undergraduate education for 150 scholarship recipients in Agrotechnology, Agribusiness, Agricultural Engineering, and Agricultural Technology.
Meanwhile, AKPY has been entrusted with educating 740 students in its one-year diploma program and another 120 students in its two-year diploma program.
Preparing Plantation Professionals for the Workforce
YPKPY Chairman Dr. Purwadi welcomed BPDP’s continued confidence in the two educational institutions, describing the partnership as a major responsibility and an opportunity to further strengthen the quality of plantation education.
He said INSTIPER and AKPY remain committed to producing skilled and competent professionals capable of meeting the evolving needs of Indonesia’s plantation sector, particularly the palm oil industry.
The program is designed to go beyond classroom learning. Scholarship recipients will also participate in practical activities, internships with INSTIPER’s strategic industry partners, and competency certification programs.
The combination of academic education, practical training, and direct industry exposure is expected to help bridge the gap between campus learning and the realities of plantation operations.
INSTIPER has also built a long-standing focus on palm oil education. Since 2005, the institution has developed a specialized undergraduate study interest in oil palm plantations, strengthening its role in preparing graduates with sector-specific knowledge and skills.
Through the 2026 scholarship program, BPDP, YPKPY, INSTIPER, and AKPY aim to strengthen Indonesia’s plantation human capital pipeline and prepare a new generation of professionals equipped to support technological development, productivity, and the long-term sustainability of the country’s plantation industry.
