InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – China’s green policy transformation under its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030) is expected to significantly reshape global agricultural supply chains, including the palm oil industry, which faces increasing sustainability demands.

According to InfoSAWIT, citing the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) on Wednesday (April 1, 2026), RSPO Head of Market Transformation for China, Lifeng Fang, stated that the “Beautiful China” vision signals a shift toward integrating environmental considerations into all economic activities.

“The ‘Beautiful China’ vision reflects a future where green production and lifestyles become mainstream, carbon emissions peak, and ecosystems—including biodiversity—are strengthened,” Fang said.

China is now moving from a gradual approach to systemic transformation, where climate, sustainability, and environmental issues are embedded across production, consumption, finance, and trade.

“Sustainability is no longer optional—it has become part of market rules and global trade expectations,” Fang emphasized.

In this context, supply chains play a central role. Sustainability requirements are increasingly transmitted through standards, transparency, and trade mechanisms, placing pressure on commodities such as palm oil to meet stricter global benchmarks.

As the world’s second-largest palm oil importer and third-largest consumer, China holds significant influence over production practices in major producing countries like Indonesia and Malaysia.

By the end of 2025, RSPO had 529 members in China and 474 certified supply chain facilities. Certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) consumption reached around 550,000 tons, or approximately 11.7% of total consumption in 2024.

“The foundation is in place, and the next phase is scaling up sustainable palm oil adoption,” Fang noted. (T2)
