DAIRI – What the farmers in District of Dairi, North Sumatera trying to enlarge and develop palm oil plantations is not supported by the regional government
The Regent of Dairi, KRA Johnny Sitohang Adinegoro, as quoted from Medan Bisnis, Tuesday (3/2) said that the region is in a high land or it is far from the sea which makes the temperature is cold. “On the other hand, palm oil is good to be planted and developed in the hot weather,” he said.
He also explained, he does not prohibit the farmers to plant palm oil. He hopes that planting palm oil could improve their economy. But before developing or enlarging kinds of commodities, there should be the djustment about the location, climate, and land acidity.
In addition, the fresh fruit price in Dairi will be difficult to compete with it in the other regions because the yield will be small. He gave example, if palm oil fruit in other region could be Rp 1.500 – Rp 2000/kg, in Dairi, it could be Rp 1.000/kg. (T3)
