PALAS – Several palm oil farmers in District of Padang Lawas (Palas), North Sumatera Province, in last few months get small income. The fruit productions are decreasing because of lacking of nursery. This makes the fruit selling price variative – it depends on the quality.
As written in Medan Bisnis, the fruit selling price to the collector is variative, about Rp 1.450 to Rp 1.500/kg. A farmer in Arsehsimatorkis Village, Subdistrict of Barumun, Muhammad Bukhori said, from 2,5 hectares of his plantation, he only got 500 – 700 kg fruit in twice a week or 1 to 1,4 tons of fruit in a month. He sold it about Rp 1.450/kg.
In the normal time, he could harvest about 900 kg to 1 ton twice a week or 1,8 tons to 2 tons per month. He admitted that he is careless to nurse the plantation for being inherited by his parents. Besides fulfilling the daily needs of his family, the money is also used to his two younger brother education, who studies in Ponpes Purba Baru and in college, Saturday (24/1). (T3)
