Central Sulawesi Forests will Exhausted in 16 Years Later?

PALU – People and Nature Volunteers (ROA) in Central Sulawesi predicts forests in Centra Sulawesi Province will exhausted in less than 16 years to go.

The statemet were based on Regional Strategy Document REDD+ Central Sulawesi Province written there is 902.776  hectares forest areas which have been reduced and ratified in Spatial Plant of 2014-2030.

“Actually there still the rest of the forests such are protected areas and other cultivated areas. But, those have been controlled by businessmen and capitalized by foreigners,” said Gifvents, Researcher and Campaign Coordinator of ROA, as cited by Mongabay, on Monday (01/12/2014).

He added,  exclude 40 licenses of palm oil plantations capitalized by foreigners, that controlled 608.081 hectares land which if calculated, reached 2.381.961 hectares, while the management of village forest only in 0,2 percent from the forests-wide in Central Sulawesi were only 3.492.156 hectares.
