US$ 1,2 Million per Year for a Better Quality of Palm Oil

BANDUNG – Palm oil industry is encouraged to implements biotechnology soon to increasing production quality and decreasing the usage of chemical materials so that the commodity will be accepted well in international market.

“The challenge can be answered through biotechnology which is the using of biology manipulation to improve palm oil quality, said the researcher of Indonesian Agriculture Biotechnology Research Center (IABRC), Darmono Taniwiryono, as published by CNN Indonesia, on Friday (28/11/2014).

“But, to implementing biotechnology, we need a strong commitment to fund this research. Generally, the research will spend a lot of fund that is reaches US$ 1,2 million per year,” he explained.

Darmono stated, palm oil industry stakeholders need to proceed the implementation of biotechnology for some reasons, the first, reducing chemical materials usage until 37% the second, increasing harvesting result until 22% and the third is increasing the profit for the farmers. (T4)
