PEKANBARU – Head Officer of Agriculture Riau Agency, Zulher, said the agency encourages the processing of biomass sourced from solid and liquid waste of plantations commodity as a source of a new renewable energy by businesses.

He said biomass feedstock in Riau very abundant so far only be environmentally damaging waste. With the processing of biomass, will give positive impacts which are will make environmentally friendly agro-industry, increase local revenue,  and assist national energy security program conducted by the central government.

“Biomass from 187 palm oil mills in Riau least capable of producing not less than 187 MW electrical power. With a value of 187 MW, can beat the production of electricity of Koto Panjang hydropower with 115MW electricity power which has been powering West Sumatera and Riau electricity. With this abundant raw materials, then it could be a barn should Riau electricity,” he said in a meeting of renewable energy from palm oil biomass in Pekanbaru, Tuesday (04/11/2014), as published by Spirit Riau.

He continued explain, palm oil plantation companies have been process biomass into biofuels until now that are PTPN V Sei Tandun estate, and PT Musim Mas Group. To that end, there are 180s plantations company that still haven’t manage it. (T3)
