KUALA LUMPUR–According to Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and Orio Genomics, gen VIR may make the palm oil farmers replace superior seeds to the newest ones with the higher productivities than the previous variety.
The gen VIR is known to have good characteristics which is taken from the older seeds in Africa and which is also done by the scientists, sponsored by the government of Malaysia for the last 40 years, before the genetic mapping.’
“We will not have this sample to identify gen VIR without the Malaysian scientists’ foresight,” General Director MPOB Choo Yuen Mei in the press release of Orion Genomics which InfoSAWIT got, Monday (30/6/2014).
He thought, identifying gen VIR completes the same previous scientific discovery, that is, gen SHELL, which they published in Nature Journal last year. (T3)
