Jakarta – Nowadays there are lots of sides urge to implement sustainable palm oil practices. But the real fact is that there are lots of problems too about the funds – it needs much money to implement environmental palm oil.

Senior Natural Resources Economist, Asian Development Bank, Sanath Ranawana said, it needs alternative funds to run sustainable palm oil practices. For some time, funds always refer to the nature and environment control only. “In addition, the nature fund is less interested in by the markets,” Ranawana said when presenting his idea in the Forest Asia conference in Jakarta, last May.

Furthermore, Ranawana continued, palm oil has proved to make new employment and the increasing economy of the villagers. But the question remains, how to estimate the industrial progress to the environmental damages? If it is hard to estimate, it needs alternative funds. “This also runs to all monoculture commodities,” Ranawana ended his words. (T2)
