JAKARTA – In his speech in the “Forest Asia Summit” conference, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) hoped, his successor would continue the moratorium policy which had been signed in 2011.

“In 2011, I signed the moratorium of licence of utilization and new conversion to protect 63 millions hectare forest and peatland in Indonesia. The area is vaster than Singapore and Malaysia if the area is combined,” he said to InfoSAWIT in Jakarta, Monday (5/5/2014).

He explained, it was continued until 2005. “I hope my successor would do this too,” he said.

When the moratorium run on, Yudhoyono claimed, it decreased deforestation from 1,2 millions hectares per year, between 2003  and 2006 to be 450 and 600 thousands hectare per year when the period of moratorium 2011 hingga 2013 . “So we are success to reduce 211 millions ton of CO2 per year,” he said..

Beside that, in his speech, he said that he had planted 4 billons of trees in many regions for 4 last years. (T3)
