JAKARTA – Though the President of Indonesia,JokoWidodo (Jokowi) has prolonged the moratorium or the postponement of new licence enlargement until the next two years or 2017, President Jokowi does not put the protective reinforcement in it. That is why, Greenpeace concerned, 48,5 millionshectaresof the forest will be risky to be damaged.
Environmental campaigner welcome the moratorium. But Greenpeace felt sorry that the policy has not much changed. The good intention to prolong the moratorium is less meaningful without reinforcement.
“President Joko Widodo has been fail to listen to the people to protect the rests of all forest and the weatland. The targets of reducing green house effect emission in Indonesia will be difficult to get and the conservation will not be everlasting,” the Forest Campaigner, Greenpeace Indonesia, Teguh Surya said in his official statement which InfoSAWIT got, Wednesday (13/5).
Greenpeace analyzed, the new President’s Instruction should protect 63,8 millionshectares; but the fastness of the forests in Indonesia reaches 93,6 millionshectares. The extension will not solve the problems about the overlapping licence in the forests which are put in the moratorium, covering 5,7 millionshectares. So, about 48,5 millionshectares of the rain forest in Indnesia are still threatened.
He continued, the new policy will not solve the areal conflicts, among the indigenous and local people with the government and the companies because there is no protection, reinforcement and the strengthening on their rights and space. The new policy will not realize One Map policy and will not help the law enforcement relating to the environmental cases, including the fire in the forest. (T3)
