JAKARTA – When attending National Innovation Forum, 2015 in Graha Widya Bhakti, Puspitek, Tangerang, Banten, Monday, 13 April 2015, President Joko Widodo criticized the national research world.

Jokowi thought, the progress of national research was less focus. But he admitted, the government does not give lots of funds yet to develop the researches. For example, the trial of intercropping in the area of Perhutani. In the area, he thought, corn could well grow in palm oil area. From the intercropping trial, it produced 8 tons to 9 tons of corn from one hectare palm oil plantations.

Unfortunately, the trial was implemented in 5 hectares only. There was no decision to socialize it. “It was a good result. But it was years ago. Why wasn’t it decide to be nationalized? How many hactares of palm oil do we have? When planting palm oil in palm oil plantation, there should be no more corn imports,” he said.

Beside the obscure research, Jokowi also said, many institutions are not synergic one to another. “Where is the goal to? It should be known and it’s the Ministers’ duty. What we want is that, there is a clear realization – the cooperation in researches, business world, universities, good coopertions, and clear collaborations so that the results will be useful to the people,” he said.
