BERAU – Administrator Board (AB) REDD+ appreciated District of Berau which run the Berau Forest Carbon Programme and other initiatives, such as, changing the Other Areal Usage to be Lesan Protected Forest about 11.000 hectares and palm oil plantation to be Labuan Cermin Protected Region about 2.000 hectares.
Beside that, in the press release that InfoSAWIT got, Friday (16/5/2014), it was said, the AB REDD+ also appreciated The Nature Conservancy (TNC) which started to implementing REDD+ programmes and guiding the people in Berau.
According to AB BP REDD+, Heru Prasetyo,the experience and the hard work in of the people had shown REDD+ was not limited to carbon only but also to the management, partnership, business, and even the people empowerment.
“The relationship between the people and the forest shoud run well so the REDD + programmes in Indonesia will not aim to reduce emission only but the most important thing is to increase the welfare of the people without damaging the forest,” he said. (T3)
