InfoSAWIT, PONTIANAK – The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) is continuing its push to meet the demand for superior seeds to support increased food production and strengthen the sustainability of the plantation sector. This was confirmed during a visit to the West Kalimantan Agricultural Modernization Application Center (BRMP) on Saturday (23/8), with a focus on providing gogo rice seeds suitable for planting on plantation land, such as oil palm, coconut, and other commodities.

Acting Director General of Plantations, Abdul Roni Angkat, stated that the need for gogo rice seeds in Indonesia, including in West Kalimantan, is immense. He emphasized the role of BRMP Kalbar in supporting the provision of gogo rice seeds for the intercropping system on plantation land, while adhering to applicable regulations.

“In addition to gogo rice, BRMP Kalbar is also expected to contribute to the provision of seeds for other plantation crops, such as oil palm and coconut, which are primary commodities in this region,” Roni said, as quoted by InfoSAWIT from the Ditjenbun's Facebook page on Tuesday (26/8/2025).

The head of BRMP Kalbar, Anjar Suprapto, confirmed that his agency is ready to support the program. “BRMP Kalbar is ready to make the gogo rice planting program on plantation land a success as part of the effort to achieve food self-sufficiency,” he said.

In addition to visiting BRMP, the delegation also visited CV Tunas Indo Perkasa, a palm oil seed nursery, to ensure the readiness of the seeds that will be distributed to participants of the Smallholder Palm Oil Replanting (PSR) program. On that occasion, Abdul Roni once again stressed the importance of the quality of the palm oil seeds received by farmers. “The palm oil seeds distributed must have a clear origin and be genuinely superior. Farmers should not be harmed by receiving low-quality seeds. The success of a plantation, including palm oil, starts with good seeds,” he stressed. (T2)
