MEULABOH – Farmers’ palm oil productivity in Aceh Province could not increase their economy for most of them planted fake seeds.
Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS) mentioned, 80% of palm oil farmers in Aceh planted bad seeds.
“If the farmers want to have superior seeds, based on the researches, they could produce 32 tons to 39 tons per hectare per year. But if they use fake seeds, the plants produce 10 tons per hectare per year. Imagine, what a lost for the farmers. If the people want to develop, use superior seeds,” Chairman of PPKS Medan, Fakhullah, Wednesday (11/3).
He continued as quoted from Antara Aceh, by 2017, PPKS has related cooperation with the government of Aceh to run prowita programme within 5.000 hectares. Its goal is to reach the people’s plantations and give access for the farmers. (T3)
