JAKARTA – A big palm oil plantation company, PT Asian Agri tries to help the government to fulfill the electricity for the people.

It is done by building five Biogas Power Plants (BPP) locating in North Sumatera, Riau, and Jambi by advantaging liquid waste of Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) to be electricity.

The first BPP is in Negeri Lama Dua, Village of Sidomulyo, Subdistrict of Bilah Hilir, District of Labuhan Batu, North Sumatera Province; the second in Gunung Melayu Satu, Village of Batu Anam, Subdistrict of Rahuning, District of Asahan, North Sumatera Province; the third is in Ukui Satu, Village of Air Hitam, Subdistrict of Ukui, District of Pelalawan, Riau Province; the fourth one is in Buatan Satu, Village of Bukit Agung, Subdistrict of Pangkalan Kerinci, District of Pelalawan, Riau Province and the fifth one is in Taman Raja, Village of Desa Lubuk Bernai, Subdistrict of Batang Asam, District of West Tanjung Jabung, Jambi Province.

General Manager Asian Agri, Fredy Widjaja in his press conference, Wednesday (4/3) mentioned, the building of BPP is using Japan tank digester technology.

“The technology has better quality for the process uses an aerobic membrane tank which accelerates and maximizes the making of methane gas,” he said.

It is said, the five BPP are in the finishing process – two of them will be starting to operate in this middle of March, 2015. “If they run, the five BPP of Asian Agri could produce 10 megawatt which fulfills the national energy,” he explained.

He continued, the BPP are environmental. Besides reducing methane gas to the atmosphere, the waste of the final biogas production is no more and it can be used as the fertilizer to the plants. (T3)
