JAKARTA – Palm oil industries become one of Indonesian superior product in last one decade. The industries develop significantly. It can be known by the increasing production from 11,9 millions metric ton in 2003 to be 26 millions metric ton in 2013. Since 2006 Indonesia has been the biggest crude palm oil (CPO) in the World, defeated Malaysia
The increasing productions happen for the plantation enlargement. In 2003 the vastness of Indonesian palm oil area was 5 millions hectare but in 2013, it became 9 millions hectare. Having the success, there are huge numbers of pressure to palm oil industries, especially relating to the social conflicts and environment. Black campaigns hit the industries, not only in the international but national scope.
Knowing the contribution of palm oil in Indonesian economy both as the source of progress and the food security and renewable energy as the exchange contributor from non oil and gas export, and the employment of workers, the government should support the development of plantation including palm oil industries.
So the governmental policy to develop palm oil industries became the importan topic which was discussed in International Conference and Exhibition on Palm Oil (ICEPO) which held in Jakarta Convention Centre, 26 - 28 Mei 2014
“We thought, it is better to discuss this industry to some canditates of president. Its goal is to get their attentions to undenied facts; palm oil is so strategic in Indonesian economy. Hopefully, they will make a long term and right strategies, both on-farm and off-farm,” delegation of ICEPO who was also the Chairman of Indonesian Plantation Businessmen Association, Soedjai Kartasasmita said to InfoSAWIT, Monday,(26/5/2014).
