JAKARTA –Palm Oil Farmer Union urged the government especially Ministry of Agriculture to revise the Regulation of Plantation No 39 / 2014. The Regulation was officially announced by the Former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, on October 17th, 2014. The regulation is thought to make new problems.
POFU, in its press release, which InfoSAWIT got, Saturday (7/2) thought, the Regulation will not accomodate the cooperation, have the inclucive funds for the farmers and have justice.
POFU mentioned, there are four reasons why the new Regulation of Plantation should be revised. The first, the regulation only accomodates the big scale palm oil plantation businessmen. There are several chapters in the Regulation thought to be benefit, such as, having guarantee of fund and land. The sanction perspective says that, the company could not be touched by the law.
The second, the Regulation guarantees the expansion and it is very controversial if in the other side, the government prioritizes the food independency. The third, the regulation is the source of problems in plantation while many companies try to commit changes or run sustainability but on the other side, the country regulates it worse.
The fourth, the new Government, especially the Ministry of Agriculture should have new spirit. The Secretary of Agriculture who is from independent side (not the member of the party) should show the difference from what the former Secretary was. So the initiative should be done in plantation sector by revising the Regulation. (T3)
