UNITED KINGDOM – According to the latest from the government’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), consumption of sustainable palm oil in UK has increased for the fifth year running.

The second CPET Annual on UK Consumption of Sustainable Palm Oil shows there has been a steady rise in the proportion of certified sustainable palm oil (CSPO) being imported into the UK, with consumption increasing from 277,961 metric ton (MT) in 2012 to 321,61 MT in 2013. The figures shows consumption has doubled since 2009 when just 155,000 MT was used.

As published by The Guardian, on Friday (19/12/2014), to coincide with the review, the government has releases its UK Statement on Sustainable Palm Oil outlining how UK organizations are meeting their various commitments to sourcing sustainable palm oil. Groups included in the document such as the Food and Drink Federation, British Retail Consortium and Zoological Society of London all report progress and reaffirm their commitment to source 100% CSPO by the end of 2015.
