InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s oil palm industry has gained a new career development resource with the publication of The Key to Passing Oil Palm Assistant Recruitment Tests: Planter Fresh Graduate, a book designed to help young professionals prepare for careers in plantation management.
Speaking to InfoSAWIT on June 24, 2026, veteran oil palm and rubber plantation trainer Abdul Hamdan Nasution said the book was inspired by years of experience in plantation operations, training programs, and recruitment processes across the industry.
According to Nasution, many university graduates possess strong academic backgrounds but often lack a clear understanding of the competencies required by plantation companies when recruiting assistant estate managers and field supervisors.
He explained that recruitment processes typically assess not only technical knowledge but also analytical thinking, leadership ability, communication skills, and physical and mental readiness.
Published by KBM Indonesia, the 76-page book provides practical guidance covering the structure of Indonesia’s oil palm industry, personal branding, recruitment procedures, and the technical agricultural knowledge expected from plantation assistants.
The publication also includes sections on numerical reasoning tests, problem-solving approaches for social and operational challenges in plantation environments, interview preparation, professional conduct, body language, and strategies for succeeding in corporate training programs.
Beyond recruitment preparation, Nasution offers insights into long-term career pathways available within the plantation sector, helping readers understand opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
“This book is based on field experience, training activities, and recruitment processes that I have observed throughout my career. I hope it serves as a practical guide for fresh graduates seeking a career as plantation assistants,” he said.
Indonesia’s oil palm industry continues to require skilled professionals, particularly at the supervisory and assistant management levels, where personnel play a critical role in maintaining plantation productivity and operational efficiency.
Nasution hopes the book will help aspiring planters better understand the challenges and opportunities within the modern plantation industry while improving their readiness to compete in recruitment processes.
The publication is expected to become a useful reference for final-year students and recent graduates interested in building careers in one of Indonesia’s most important agricultural sectors. (T2)
