PPKS Strengthens Oil Palm Pollination Through Release of Tanzanian Insects

InfoSAWIT, NORTH SUMATRA – Efforts to improve oil palm plantation productivity continue to advance through research-based innovation. One such initiative has been carried out by the Indonesian Oil Palm Research Institute (PPKS) in collaboration with the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) through the release of pollinating insects at the Marihat Unit.

Reported by InfoSAWIT from PPKS on Sunday (April 12, 2026), the activity was part of the National Oil Palm Forum, which brought together key stakeholders from Indonesia’s palm oil industry.

The pollinating insects released are known to originate from Tanzania and have undergone extensive research and testing before being introduced into plantation environments. The initiative aims to strengthen natural pollination processes in oil palm crops.

In oil palm cultivation, pollination plays a crucial role in fruit formation. Successful pollination directly impacts productivity and yield levels, making its optimization a key strategy for improving plantation performance.

PPKS believes that introducing these pollinating insects could provide a practical solution to future productivity challenges, particularly amid increasing demands for efficiency and sustainability in the industry.

The initiative also reflects strong synergy between research institutions and industry players in promoting science-based innovation to support more productive and sustainable oil palm plantation management.

PPKS and GAPKI expressed appreciation to all parties involved in the activity and encouraged stakeholders to continue supporting innovation development in the oil palm sector. (T2)
