Prabowo Pushes Major Palm Oil Refinery Investments for Sustainable Aviation Fuel

InfoSAWIT, MAGELANG – President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to encouraging large-scale investments in palm oil-based refineries, including the processing of used cooking oil into aviation fuel.

Reported by InfoSAWIT from Kompas TV, on Thursday (April 9, 2026), the statement was delivered during the inauguration of an electric commercial vehicle assembly plant owned by PT VKTR Sakti Industries in Magelang, Central Java.

In his remarks, Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s vast palm oil potential to produce more sustainable aviation fuel, not only from crude palm oil but also from waste such as used cooking oil.

“Now aviation fuel can be derived from palm oil, and we have abundant resources. Even used cooking oil and waste can be processed into aviation fuel,” he said.

He added that the government plans to establish multiple refinery centers in the near future.

“In the near term, we will open refinery centers and invest heavily in this sector,” he stated.

Prabowo also praised the progress of Indonesia’s electric vehicle industry, noting that the country is already capable of producing electric buses and trucks, with ambitions to mass-produce electric sedans by 2028. (T2)
