EBB Launches RED III Implementation Tracker as European Biodiesel Sector Faces Regulatory Uncertainty

InfoSAWIT, BRUSSELS – The European Biodiesel Board (EBB) has officially launched a monitoring tool tracking the implementation of the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) across the 27 EU member states.

In a statement dated January 13, 2026, EBB explained that the tool enables industry stakeholders to monitor key elements directly affecting producers of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) in Europe.

Most Member States Yet to Transpose RED III

EU member states were required to transpose RED III amendments into national law by May 2025. However, only two countries had done so by the deadline, at least concerning transport-related provisions.

EBB noted that the situation complicates investment planning and underscores the regulatory complexity of RED III.

Policy Director Domenico Mininni emphasized that RED III remains central to Europe’s renewable energy future and a key regulation for the biodiesel sector. (T2)
