Vice Trade Minister Calls for Balanced Sustainable Palm Oil Narrative, Highlights ISPO and Traceability

InfoSAWIT, BEKASI — The Indonesian government is intensifying efforts to promote a more balanced and data-driven narrative on sustainable palm oil, with certification and traceability systems positioned as core instruments.

Vice Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri delivered the message during a working visit to PT Sinar Mas Agro Resources and Technology Tbk in Bekasi, West Java.

She emphasized the role of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO), which requires companies to comply with land conflict resolution mechanisms, fire prevention systems, biodiversity protection, and labor standards.

Following her participation in the Pakistan Edible Oil Conference earlier this year, she said key global concerns include food safety, vegetable oil processing standards, and rising sustainability requirements.

Pakistan remains one of Indonesia’s key palm oil markets, with stakeholders recognizing Indonesia as a reliable supplier that supports edible oil stability and competitive pricing.

SMART representatives reported that by the end of 2024, 99.5 percent of their palm oil supply chain had achieved Traceable to the Plantation (TTP) status. The company is continuing to assist Smallholders to help reach 100 percent traceability while also expanding community empowerment and SME support programs.

Government policy, she added, will continue to focus on export facilitation, domestic supply security, regulatory transparency, and strengthened traceability systems to maintain Indonesia’s global competitiveness. (T2)
