Agriculture Minister Joins National Energy Council, Bioenergy to Become Key Green Power Pillar

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s Agriculture Minister has officially joined the National Energy Council, signaling stronger integration between the agricultural sector and the country’s long-term green energy strategy.

Andi Amran Sulaiman was sworn in as a member of the Dewan Energi Nasional by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on January 28, 2026.

The appointment is based on presidential decrees covering government and stakeholder representatives within the council.

Following the ceremony, Amran stressed that agriculture will play a central role in Indonesia’s green energy transition. He highlighted major bioenergy potential from commodities such as palm oil (CPO), sugarcane, and cassava.

He noted that palm oil and sugarcane are already serving as the backbone of national biofuel development, while cassava is being prepared as the next major alternative energy source.

Amran also pointed to the expansion of biodiesel mandates, including the planned B50 program, which is expected to significantly reduce diesel imports and strengthen national energy security.

The Agriculture Ministry will continue to expand downstream processing and biofuel crop development from upstream to downstream to create added value for farmers and accelerate Indonesia’s green growth agenda. (T2)
