InfoSAWIT, SANGATTA — The 80th National Teachers’ Day commemoration in East Kutai (Kutim) on Tuesday (25/11/2025) turned emotional as hundreds gathered at the regent’s office courtyard to honor the men and women who shape Indonesia’s future. What was meant to be a ceremonial event became a celebration of perseverance—thanks to one standout teacher.

Sri Lasri Yohana Situmeang, a kindergarten teacher at Anugrah Abadi I Bengalon, stole the spotlight after receiving two major awards:
– National Dedicated Teacher Award for PAUD/Primary Level 2024, and
– Most Favorite Outstanding Education Personnel (GTK Hebat Terfavorit) at the national GTK Jamboree.

Her achievements stem from years of documenting every lesson, activity, and learning moment—an act of devotion to the young children she serves in remote areas.

“I earned this recognition because I consistently documented all my teaching activities. It’s my way of showing dedication to the children,” she told InfoSAWIT, as quoted from the Kutim Regency Government, Saturday (29/11/2025).

But behind her accolades lies a story of extraordinary resilience. Each day, Yohana undertakes a grueling commute across kilometers of palm plantations. The route transforms with the seasons—deep mud during heavy rains, blinding dust during the dry months.

“Sometimes I slip or fall off my motorcycle because the terrain is so difficult,” she said, her voice trembling.

Yet, she never considered giving up. For her, the children are worth every struggle.

“Thank you to my students. You are the reason I keep going, no matter how difficult the road gets.”

East Kutai Regent Ardiansyah Sulaiman praised Yohana and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving teacher welfare, from scholarships and incentives to reducing administrative burdens.

Yohana’s journey is a powerful reminder that dedication in education knows no limits. In the heart of oil palm estates and far from urban comfort, her spirit continues to illuminate the path for Kutim’s next generation. (T2)
