InfoSAWIT, BENGKALIS – Indonesian police have intensified efforts to keep the palm oil industry free from illegal drug abuse after conducting a surprise drug screening involving more than one hundred employees at PT Semunai Sawit Perkasa in Bengkalis Regency, Riau.
According to InfoSAWIT, citing Media Center Riau on Wednesday (July 9), the unannounced urine test was carried out by the Bengkalis Police Narcotics Investigation Unit at the company's palm oil mill located along the Duri–Pekanbaru Highway in Semunai Village, Pinggir District.
The initiative formed part of Indonesia's Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (P4GN) programme, reflecting continued cooperation between law enforcement authorities and the private sector to maintain safe, healthy, and productive workplaces.
Bengkalis Police Chief AKBP Fahrian Saleh Siregar said the screening was designed as an early detection measure to prevent drug abuse within the plantation industry.
"This is not merely a routine inspection but a preventive effort to break the chain of narcotics abuse. We aim to raise awareness among workers about the dangers of drugs while ensuring that workplaces in Bengkalis remain safe and conducive," Fahrian said.
Before the testing began, officers conducted an educational session explaining the health, social, and legal consequences of narcotics abuse. The awareness programme encouraged employees to actively support efforts to keep their workplace free from illegal drugs.
A total of 107 employees participated in the urine testing under medical supervision. The screening proceeded smoothly, with all workers cooperating throughout the process.
Laboratory results showed that all 107 urine samples tested negative for narcotics, demonstrating the company's commitment to maintaining a drug-free working environment.
Fahrian added that similar inspections will continue to be carried out periodically at both private companies and government institutions across the region. In addition to drug testing, police will expand public education campaigns as part of broader preventive measures against narcotics abuse.
He emphasized that close collaboration between law enforcement agencies and businesses remains essential to safeguarding workforce productivity and supporting a healthy, secure, and drug-free palm oil industry. (T2)
