InfoSAWIT, CENTRAL KALIMANTAN – Bumitama Gunajaya Agro (BGA Group) has intensified its forest and land fire prevention measures across its operational areas in Central Kalimantan as Indonesia prepares for the 2026 dry season.
The company is strengthening coordination with government agencies, emergency response authorities, security forces, and local communities to improve readiness against potential wildfire incidents.
Preparedness activities are being carried out in three key operational regions—Pundu, Kotawaringin, and Mentaya—through collaboration with district-level government officials, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police, Manggala Agni fire brigades, and the company’s internal firefighting teams.
With approximately 184,000 hectares under management, comprising 66% nucleus estates and 34% plasma plantations, wildfire prevention remains a critical component of BGA’s environmental stewardship and sustainable plantation management strategy.
The company’s preparedness program extends beyond equipment readiness. It includes emergency response training, firefighting simulations, inspections of fire prevention infrastructure, and enhanced field coordination to ensure rapid response capabilities in the event of fire outbreaks.
The initiative reflects BGA’s commitment to operating a responsible and sustainable palm oil business. In 2025, the company produced approximately 1.25 million tons of crude palm oil (CPO) from the processing of 5.65 million tons of fresh fruit bunches (FFB).
The raw materials originated from a diverse supply base, consisting of 39% nucleus estates, 21% plasma plantations, and 39% independent smallholders. The company recorded sales of Rp19.95 trillion during the year, with all production absorbed by the domestic market.
In addition to strengthening internal preparedness, BGA continues to promote community participation in wildfire prevention through its Fire-Free Village Program and the establishment of Community Fire Awareness Groups (Masyarakat Peduli Api – MPA).
These initiatives aim to discourage land clearing through burning while improving local capacity for early fire detection and initial response. Community involvement is considered essential, as local residents possess firsthand knowledge of the surrounding environment and can respond quickly to emerging fire risks.
Throughout 2026, BGA is working with 12 villages located near its operational areas in Central Kalimantan to enhance community-based wildfire prevention systems. The partnership forms part of the company’s broader effort to build more resilient plantation landscapes and rural communities.
Through sustained collaboration among the private sector, government institutions, security agencies, and local communities, BGA hopes to strengthen wildfire prevention efforts, safeguard the environment, and ensure that economic and social activities can continue safely throughout the dry season.
