Indonesia’s B40 Biodiesel Distribution Reached Nearly 14.9 Million Kiloliters in 2025

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s palm-based biodiesel blending program continued to strengthen in 2025, with B40 distribution reaching nearly 14.9 million kiloliters, close to the allocated 15.6 million kiloliters, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Herbert Wibert Victor Hasudungan, Sub-Coordinator for Bioenergy Business Supervision at the Directorate General of New and Renewable Energy, said the program’s implementation showed strong progress.

“Overall realization in 2025 has been positive and is projected to continue improving,” Herbert said during a workshop attended by InfoSAWIT.

The program was supported by 24 biofuel producers, 28 fuel distributors, and 80 delivery points nationwide.

For 2026, Indonesia has raised allocation slightly to 15.64 million kiloliters, alongside expanded infrastructure and improved real-time digital reporting systems.

Meanwhile, Asosiasi Produsen Biofuel Indonesia Secretary General Ernest Gunawan projected 2026 B40 demand at 15.4–15.6 million kiloliters, equivalent to nearly 98 million barrels of oil, or around 163 days of national crude production.

“The B40 program is not only about energy security, but also a critical instrument for improving Smallholders’ incomes and sustaining Indonesia’s palm industry,” Ernest said. (T2)
