InfoSAWIT, BANDUNG – The Indonesian government is accelerating the implementation of the B50 biodiesel mandate, targeting nationwide enforcement starting July 1, 2026.
Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, stated that testing has been conducted progressively since early 2025.
“Laboratory testing was completed in mid-2025, followed by simultaneous trials across six sectors since December 9, 2025,” she said.
Testing covered automotive, mining, agriculture, marine, power generation, and railway sectors.
Vehicles under 3.5 tons are targeted to reach 50,000 km, while heavier vehicles have already reached 40,000 km.
Preliminary results indicate that B50 is safe for diesel engines, with no significant technical issues observed.
The Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (GAIKINDO) also welcomed the results, expressing optimism about implementation.
Fuel quality testing confirmed compliance with standards, including water content, monoglyceride levels, and oxidation stability.
Performance tests showed no significant drop in engine efficiency, while emissions remained within regulatory limits.
The government emphasized that B50 is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen national energy security through renewable energy.
With positive test outcomes, Indonesia is optimistic that B50 will become a key milestone in achieving sustainable energy independence. (T2)
