InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is preparing to adopt B50 biodiesel as part of Indonesia’s energy transition strategy, while prioritizing safety through rigorous technical testing.
Reported by InfoSAWIT from an official statement on Monday (April 13, 2026), KAI’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, confirmed the company’s readiness to implement the fuel.
She emphasized that all locomotives and generators will undergo thorough technical trials before full deployment.
KAI has previously implemented B40 biodiesel across its fleet since February 2025, following extensive trials conducted since mid-2024.
The adoption of biofuel is expected to reduce carbon emissions and support Indonesia’s Net Zero Emission target by 2060.
Passenger demand also continues to grow, with 14.5 million passengers recorded in the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 18.4% year-on-year.
Beyond passenger services, KAI plays a vital role in logistics, transporting over 12 million tonnes of coal and nearly 3 million tonnes of other goods during the same period. (T2)
