InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The Indonesian government is intensifying efforts to strengthen the Cattle–Oil Palm Integration System (SISKA) as part of a broader strategy to enhance livestock productivity and national food security.
Reported by InfoSAWIT from the ICOP 2026 forum, on Wednesday (April 8, 2026), the initiative was highlighted during The 3rd Integrated Cattle and Oil Palm Conference (ICOP) held in Pekanbaru, Riau.
Minister of National Development Planning, Rachmat Pambudy, emphasized that integrating livestock and plantation sectors is key to strengthening a resource-based economy.
He noted that Indonesia has abundant resources but requires more integrated, efficient, and sustainable management approaches to unlock their full potential.
The integration model offers multiple benefits, including reduced feed costs through plantation by-products, improved livestock productivity, and additional income streams for farmers.
Meanwhile, Tri Melasari from the Ministry of Agriculture highlighted the importance of locally based, efficient production systems to improve competitiveness in the livestock sector.
The ICOP 2026 forum, led by Arifin Budiman Nugraha, serves as a platform to align global perspectives and foster collaboration in addressing agricultural challenges.
At the regional level, Syahrial Abdi noted that Riau has strong potential to develop SISKA through regenerative agriculture approaches that enhance sustainability and land-use efficiency.
Through stronger collaboration between government, academia, and industry, SISKA is expected to expand nationwide and contribute significantly to sustainable, protein-based food security. (T2)
