InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has stressed that palm-based cooking oil must remain affordable and readily available domestically, given Indonesia’s position as the world’s largest palm oil producer with abundant raw material supply.
As reported by Antara News and published by InfoSAWIT on Monday (23/2/2026), the minister made the statement during a market inspection at Kebayoran Market in Jakarta on Saturday, where the subsidized cooking oil brand MinyaKita was found being sold above the government’s retail price ceiling.
MinyaKita, which should be priced at Rp15,700 per liter, was found retailing at up to Rp19,000 per liter. The finding prompted authorities to investigate the distribution chain at both distributor and producer levels.
The minister emphasized that enforcement efforts would target distributors and producers rather than small retailers. During the inspection, he purchased two MinyaKita packages as evidence to support further investigation.
He described the domestic price hike as an anomaly, considering stable global supply and demand dynamics for palm oil and crude palm oil (CPO).
Data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) showed that exports of CPO and its derivatives reached US$24.42 billion between January and December 2025, representing a 21.83% increase compared to the same period the previous year. (T2)
