InfoSAWIT, PALU – With oil palm plantations in Sulawesi covering approximately 411,000 hectares according to 2024 BPS data, sustainability and worker protection remain key priorities despite the region’s smaller scale compared to Sumatra and Kalimantan.
During the event “Sulawesi Moves: Together for Women-Friendly Palm Oil” held on Feb 11–12, 2026 in Palu, the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) and the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) emphasized the importance of protecting women workers.
Sumarjono Saragih, Head of Human Resources Development at GAPKI, stressed that women worker protection is both a legal obligation and a sustainability requirement under standards such as RSPO and ISPO.
He introduced the “Total Safe, Total Health & Total Prosper” approach, ensuring women workers are protected from accidents, occupational diseases, and income insecurity through comprehensive social security programs. (T2)
