InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA — The Indonesian government has confirmed it will not implement a 50% biodiesel blend (B50) in 2026. Instead, the national biodiesel mandate will remain at B40, following President Prabowo Subianto’s directive, while preparations and studies for B50 continue.
The confirmation was delivered by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto after an event at Kadin Tower, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (January 13, 2026).
“For this year, the President’s directive remains B40. For B50, studies must be conducted continuously. We will always monitor the price difference between fuel oil and palm oil prices, and what the delta is,” Airlangga said, as quoted by InfoSAWIT from CNN Indonesia.
Trials Continue, Including Automotive Testing
Airlangga stressed that B50 development has not been halted. The government continues technical studies and trials, including in the automotive sector, while taking into account energy price developments and palm oil feedstock conditions.
“The study is ongoing, and automotive trials are also ongoing, so we’re depending on price dynamics,” he said.
According to Airlangga, the government is preparing a possible B50 implementation scheme for the second half of the year, but current policy will remain guided by the President’s price scenario. That means B40 stays the main mandate, while ensuring readiness for a future transition to B50.
“Yes, we are preparing for the second semester, but we are currently using the price scenario directed by the President—B40—but we are ready for B50,” he explained. (T2)
