JAKARTA, InfoSAWIT – Indonesia's palm oil export performance saw a remarkable increase in May 2025. The Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association (GAPKI) reported that the total export volume reached 2.664 million tons, marking a 49.75 percent rise compared to April's 1.779 million tons.
GAPKI's Executive Director, Mukti Sardjono, revealed that the most significant surge occurred in the export of processed palm oil, which rose by 58.5 percent to 1.967 million tons from 1.241 million tons the previous month. Crude palm oil (CPO) exports also experienced a sharp increase of 23.7 percent, climbing from 54,000 tons to 164,000 tons.
“Oleochemical exports also rose to 437,000 tons from 368,000 tons, an increase of 18.75 percent,” Mukti stated in an official release received by InfoSAWIT on Friday, July 25, 2025.
In terms of destination countries, Indonesia's palm oil exports saw significant increases in several key markets. Exports to India rose by 230,000 tons, China by 88,000 tons, the United States by 32,000 tons, Pakistan by 50,000 tons, Bangladesh by 54,000 tons, the African region by 197,000 tons, and the European Union (EU) by 117,000 tons. The only destination country that recorded a decline was Russia, with a reduction of 27,000 tons compared to the previous month.
In line with the volume increase, the value of Indonesia's palm oil exports in May 2025 also surged, rising from US$ 2.069 billion in April to US$ 2.822 billion, a growth of 36.40 percent. Cumulatively, the export value from January to May 2025 reached US$ 13.641 billion, up 35.93 percent compared to the same period in 2024, which was US$ 10.035 billion.
GAPKI noted that the increase in export value was influenced by a rise in the average price of palm oil products in the global market. From January to May 2025, the average price of palm oil products reached US$ 1,186 per ton (CIF Rotterdam), higher than the average of US$ 997 per ton during the same period last year.
This export performance underscores the competitiveness of Indonesia's palm oil industry in the global market, despite ongoing economic challenges and international trade dynamics. (T2)
