Lampung Ships 14,000 Tons of Palm Kernel Expeller to New Zealand, Generating Rp20 Billion in Export Value

InfoSAWIT, BANDAR LAMPUNG – Indonesia's palm oil downstream exports continue to gain momentum as Lampung Province dispatched 14,000 metric tons of Palm Kernel Expeller (PKE) to New Zealand, with the shipment valued at approximately Rp20 billion, underscoring the province's growing role in the global agricultural commodities market.

According to Antara, as reported by InfoSAWIT on Monday (July 6, 2026), the export shipment successfully passed all quarantine inspections and fulfilled the phytosanitary requirements imposed by the destination country before departure.

Donni Muksydayan, Head of Lampung Agricultural Quarantine Agency, said the successful export reflects the increasing competitiveness of Lampung's plantation commodities in international markets while demonstrating exporters' ability to comply with global quality standards.

"This PKE export shows that Lampung's plantation commodities are capable of competing in international markets. We remain committed to ensuring every export shipment complies with the importing country's quarantine requirements, thereby strengthening global confidence in Indonesian products," Donni said.

He added that the emergence of new exporters indicates expanding business opportunities for Lampung's plantation sector. The province's quarantine certification and inspection system has helped facilitate market access while providing greater assurance to international buyers.

According to Donni, rising global demand for efficient alternative livestock feed ingredients presents significant export opportunities for Indonesia, particularly Lampung, to expand its PKE shipments.

"Demand for Palm Kernel Expeller continues to grow alongside the expansion of the global livestock industry. This presents an important opportunity for exporters to broaden their international market reach," he noted.

Quarantine Certification Supports Export Growth

Before export clearance, every shipment undergoes physical inspection, monitoring, and certification procedures conducted by the Lampung Agricultural Quarantine Agency. Exporters are issued a Phytosanitary Certificate, confirming that the commodity complies with international plant health standards and the importing country's quarantine requirements.

The certificate plays a critical role in preventing the spread of plant pests while ensuring uninterrupted international trade and safeguarding Indonesia's access to overseas markets.

"Our role is to facilitate safe international trade. We ensure every exported commodity meets all quarantine requirements so that plant pest risks can be minimized and market access remains secure," Donni explained.

He expressed hope that the success of new exporters would encourage more businesses in Lampung to increase production capacity and diversify export destinations, thereby strengthening the plantation sector's contribution to Indonesia's foreign exchange earnings.

PKE Remains a Key Global Feed Ingredient

Palm Kernel Expeller is a high-value by-product of palm oil processing widely used as livestock feed due to its fiber and nutritional content, particularly for dairy and beef cattle.

New Zealand remains one of the major destinations for Indonesian PKE, driven by strong demand from its livestock industry for quality feed ingredients.

Lampung Agricultural Quarantine data show that PKE exports have maintained strong growth in recent years. In 2024, the province recorded 172 export shipments totaling approximately 569,000 tons worth Rp2.58 trillion. The figure increased in 2025 to 184 shipments, totaling 1.34 million tons valued at Rp3.12 trillion.

During the January–June 2026 period alone, Lampung exported 513,000 tons of PKE through 66 shipments, generating approximately Rp1.17 trillion in export value, reinforcing the commodity's position as one of the province's leading plantation export products. (T2)
