50% Smallholders in Jambi Planted Fake Seeds

InfoSAWIT, JAMBI – In fact, 50% of palm oil plantations in Jambi Province that laid about 600 thousand hectares were planted by superior or certified seeds. “300 thousand hectares were planted by fake or uncertified seeds, such as, in District of Tanjab Timur,” Head of Plantation Agency Jambi Province, Agusrizal said, as quoted from RRI Jambi, Friday (20/1/2023).

It is normal that fresh fruit bunch (FFB) selling in the province is much cheaper than it in other regions. “Many (smallholders) planted fake seeds, such as, the seeds that fell on the ground, grown, and transferred (to their plantations),” Agus said.

He also mentioned, to get superior and qualified seeds, it needs to specifically cross the male (pesifera), and the female (dura). The cross would produce Tenera superior seeds.

300 thousand hectares planted by uncertified seeds in Jambi Province are in District of Batanghari, Muaro Jambi, and others. "The most regions planting superior seeds are in Tanjab Barat, because the stakeholders there are mostly from North Sumatera. They understand about palm oil seeds,” Agusrizal said. (T2)
