InfoSAWIT, BALIKPAPAN –Governor of East Kalimantan Province, Awang Faroek Ishak said, the better palm oil industry makes something unavoidable. “Oil and gas, and mining would have an end. The transformation choice is from agro industry. One of it is by developing plantation,” he recently said.
Palm oil areas in the province now lay about 3 million hectares. In the future, the width would be more for it depends on the availability of the area.
Meanwhile, Head of Climate Change Board, East Kalimantan province, Deddy Ruhiyat said, plantation becomes the mainstay of economy in the province in the future. He ensured, the sustainable plantation cultivation would influence the people and the region.
But the plantation should be cultivated weel and prioritize the smallholders’ empowerment. “The concrete is that we should protect the high carbon stock,” he said, as quoted from Kompas.com. (T3)
