CPOPC Strengthens Sustainable Palm Oil Cooperation with Papua New Guinea

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries is deepening strategic cooperation with Papua New Guinea to accelerate sustainable palm oil development and strengthen collaboration among producing nations.

The commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy meeting between CPOPC and Papua New Guinea’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Simon Namis, highlighting growing momentum for closer engagement between palm oil producing countries.

CPOPC emphasized its role as a collaborative platform where producing nations can exchange perspectives, address common challenges, and strengthen collective advocacy for the global palm oil sector.

A key topic discussed was the introduction of the Global Framework Principles for Sustainable Palm Oil (GFP-SPO), a flagship initiative aimed at helping producing countries build stronger sustainability governance. The framework is seen as particularly relevant for Papua New Guinea, which currently does not yet have its own national palm oil certification scheme.

The meeting also explored potential support for the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Papua New Guinea, with CPOPC offering technical collaboration that could help unlock investment and accelerate industry growth.

For Papua New Guinea—one of CPOPC’s key members in the Pacific—the strengthened partnership is expected to bolster sustainable expansion while reinforcing the collective voice of palm oil producing nations amid rising trade barriers, sustainability scrutiny, and persistent negative campaigns against palm oil.
