Palm Oil Production Drops Sharply in September 2025 as Exports Fall and Stocks Build Up

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA — Indonesia’s palm oil sector posted a sharp decline across key indicators in September 2025, reflecting simultaneous pressure on production, consumption, and exports.

CPO production dropped 22.32% to 3.93 million tons from 5.06 million tons in August. PKO output also fell to 366,000 tons from 481,000 tons.

Despite the monthly decline, cumulative CPO+PKO output for January–September 2025 still reached 43.34 million tons, up 11.3% YoY, according to GAPKI Executive Director Mukti Sardjono.

Domestic consumption edged slightly down to 2.05 million tons, with biodiesel declining 3.69% to 1.07 million tons. Food consumption fell marginally, while oleochemical use increased 3.83%.

Exports suffered the steepest drop, plunging 36.65% to 2.20 million tons. Refined palm oil exports fell to 1.57 million tons, and CPO exports crashed 81.58% to only 91,000 tons.

India recorded the largest fall in demand, followed by China, Malaysia, Africa, Pakistan, the U.S., and the EU. Only Russia saw a small increase.

Export value weakened 33.80% to US$2.53 billion, though cumulative value for the first nine months reached US$27.31 billion — up nearly 40% YoY due to higher global prices.

Ending stocks in September rose to 2.59 million tons, indicating slowed global demand and weakening domestic activity. (T2)
