InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA – The Chairman of the Indonesian Planters Society (IPS), Jamalul, opened a webinar themed “Palm Oil in the View of Millennials and Gen Z: Addressing Sustainability Issues and Career Opportunities.” This event, initiated by IPS Central Kalimantan, took place online and was attended by 586 participants from various provinces.
In his opening remarks, Jamalul expressed appreciation to all the committee members and participants present. “The younger generation, namely millennials and Gen Z, must continue the sustainability achievements initiated by previous generations. The status of sustainability has become a global recognition, and as the number one producer, we must continue to adapt to global demands,” he stated during the event attended by InfoSAWIT on Saturday (December 14, 2024).
Jamalul explained the importance of involving young generations in sustainability issues. Millennials, currently aged 28-43, and Gen Z, aged 12-27, are the pillars of the future of the palm oil industry. “This webinar aims to inspire them to understand the vast opportunities in the palm oil industry while also recognizing their responsibilities towards sustainability,” he added.
The event was divided into three discussion sessions featuring speakers from the palm oil industry professionals, who are also IPS members. They shared experiences and insights regarding sustainable practices in the palm oil sector. “Our speakers are experts in their fields, still actively working in large companies, and proving that this industry offers lucrative career opportunities,” Jamalul explained.
IPS, which now has around 700 experienced members, continues to expand its influence in society. The organization not only focuses on the quality of its members but also develops educational activities, such as this webinar, to strengthen awareness of the importance of sustainability in the palm oil industry.
At the end of the event, participants were also given the opportunity to join IPS to expand their networks and deepen their knowledge in the palm oil sector. "With the active participation of the younger generation, we are optimistic that the sustainability of Indonesia's palm oil industry can continue to develop and gain wider recognition in the international arena," Jamalul concluded.
