InfoSAWIT, BANGKA – The police have named two executives of PT Payung Mitra Jayamandiri (PMM) as suspects in a confinement case involving Nadia (22) and her 15-month-old child, NV. The mother and child were reportedly held for two months on the company’s premises, an incident that went viral on social media.
Bangka Belitung Police Spokesperson, Kombes Pol Fauzan Sukmawansyah, confirmed that YS, alias AS, Head Officer of PT PMM, was named a suspect on Saturday, December 8, 2024. Earlier, the company’s manager, identified as GM, was also named a suspect and detained.
“Yes, YS alias AS has been named a suspect. Currently, there are two suspects,” Fauzan stated, as quoted by InfoSAWIT from Tribunnews.com on Monday, December 9, 2024.
The case has drawn direct attention from Bangka Belitung Police Chief, Irjen Pol Hendro Pandowo, who visited the victims on Friday, December 6, 2024. He assured that the legal process would be thorough. “This case has our full attention, as it involves empathy for the victims. We will ensure justice is served,” Hendro emphasized.
PT PMM had earlier denied the confinement allegations. The company’s legal representative, Tian, stated that Nadia and her child were not kept in a dog cage but in an unused administrative room.
“Nadia stayed in the room voluntarily after her husband, accused of stealing company fuel, could not be located. She chose to spend the night there with her child,” Tian explained.
He added that the room was equipped with a mattress and food supplies. “We categorically deny the allegations of confinement. While there, the child was bathed and fed by a colleague’s wife,” Tian noted.
The case went viral after videos depicting the alleged confinement circulated widely, sparking public outrage. Following the incident, police promptly detained the company’s manager.
Investigations are ongoing, with the police chief promising to expedite the case’s transfer to the prosecutor’s office and ensure transparency.
This incident underscores the need for humane treatment and strict law enforcement against workplace violations. (T2)
