New ISPO Would Study Certification Models that Cooperation and Groups Would Adapt

InfoSAWIT, JAKARTA - Herdrajat Natawijaya, Secretariat Head of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) Commission said that since 2025, every palm oil planter both the smallholders and stakeholders should have ISPO certificate. This would be about to accelerate sustainable palm oil practices in Indonesia.

"ISPO would be the mandatory for every planter in 2025. The significant aspects to get are cultivation documents and environment permit,” he said ina a dialogue with the theme “Percepatan Sertifikasi ISPO Bagi Para Pelaku Usaha Perkebunan Kelapa Sawit Melalui Pendekatan Yurisdiksi”, in the spare time of Bunex 2024 that InfoSAWIT attended at ICE BSD in the midst of Septembr 2024.

Herdrajat thought, the government would be preparing series of new policy to support the implementation, such as, the approach for the smallholders’ groups and union. Every party in palm oil sectors both in this country and others, would understand and implement sustainable principles.

“It would be significant to get approached with the smallholders’ groups and unions particularly they were not organized still. This would help them understand the regulation and implement the practices in ISPO standards,” he said.

Besides, there would be integrated development and monitoring between the central and regional government to confirm the harmony between the policies published by the central government and the field implementation and there would be no overlapping regulations.

“We are studying the models of certification to be adapted and implemented by the groups and unions, including the implement possibility in bigger groups. This could be the solution to make sure that every smallholder and stakeholder would get ISPO certificate easier,” Herdrajat said. (T2)
